Michael Goldfried

Director, Educator and Coach for actors & directors

Michael is a professional director, private coach and directing professor at Pace University, Marymount Manhattan College and the film program at the School of Visual Arts. As founder of RightBrain Consulting, Michael retains a private practice dedicated to the personal and professional growth of actors and directors, and those looking to access their creativity and artistic expression.

Michael was in the first graduating class of the Brown University/Trinity Rep professional directing MFA program and holds a BA in theater from Vassar College. Michael began his training in New York City as drama major at LaGuardia High School and at the Neighborhood Playhouse and later studied directing with Mike Nichols.

He has directed numerous new plays and classic comedies at theaters such as The Public Theater, Theater Row on 42nd Street, Ars Nova, EST, and the Goodman Theatre in Chicago. He has served as Assistant Director on Broadway for Jerry Zaks, Off-Broadway (MTC and the Public Theater) and at regional theaters (including Berkeley Rep and the Long Wharf).  Michael has been awarded numerous grants and prestigious directing fellowships from the NEA, Theater Communications Group, Lincoln Center Director’s Lab and The Drama League.

As an actor he has performed leading roles in countless plays and musicals, as well as writing and performing two solo shows which he performed at PS122, HERE, The Kraine theater, and various regional theaters. As an improvisor, he studied with Keith Johnstone and performed with BATS in San Francisco, and later with UCB, Gotham Improv and Improvolution in New York City
